OSB (Oriented Strain Board) is a product used for wall, roof and flooring in 3/8 to 1 and 1/8 thickness. According to Matt Risinger of Youtube “houses used to be made with solid sheeting. Around World War 2 plywood came not the scene. OSB was invented in the 1960’s but didn’t become popular until the 1980’s. It is 3/4 of the market in America for custom homes that are using a solid sheeting on the outside of the house (2018 estimate) It is made from small strands of natural fast growth wood that has been glued and pressed with heat to form the sheet. OSB is most used for the costs benefit and cheaper than plywood. “
Some history : Older homes were built with solid sheeting that’s shiplap. It was used as a sheeting product and used on the outside of the houses and super strong. But after WW2 plywood started to replace shiplap.
