George Lucas is on board to help Mr. Iger retain the leadership at Disney because there is a move by an activist investor to add two board members and try to make major changes in how Disney does business. Nelson Pelts of Trian Partners, a hedge fund seeks to make changes to the board. Blackwells Capital, another hedge fund is also seeking changes. Millions of individual investors own 1/3 of Disney stock (per article in WSJ Wednesday March 30, 2024 article Alyssa Lukpat Page B2). Support from George Lucas could help sway shareholders to vote against the hedge funds board selections. Also pushing for changes is ex Marvel executive Isaac Permimutter, but the Disney family members don’t want the changes suggested such as limiting Hulu and spending more on theme parks.
