Inflation Above Levels Not Seen In Decades
Core Consumer Price Index from May 2020 to May 2021 increased by 5%. These are levels over 4% well above levels we have not seen in decades.
Inflation has kicked up and we recently for the month of May 2021 compared to a year ago May 2020 have seen spikes in most areas of consumer goods. Sporting Goods prices are up 9% with the largest increases seen since 1980. Used cars and trucks are up 29.7% in May 2021 due to a chip shortage causing a slowing production of new cars and trucks. Ford has been forced to scrap production of more than 350,000 vehicles it planned to build this year through May according to research firm LMC Automotive and Wall Street Journal article July 1, 2021by Mike Colias and Nora Naughton. Energy prices are up 28.5% alone.
